Let's Celebrate Galentine's Day

LET'S CELEBRATE Galentine's Day

February is here and it’s time to celebrate your partner... your partner in crime that is, because we're talking Galentine's Day, ladies.

If unfamiliar with this most sacred of holidays, thank Amy Poehler’s Parks and Recreation character Leslie Knope: “Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas.”

Your girl squad deserves celebrating as much as any relationship. Friendships enrich your life, they make you a better person, and scientific studies claim they benefit your health. These are facts you can remind your significant other of as you're getting dolled up for a night on the town. Because science.

Before you’re eye-rolling your way through the annual Valentine's Day social media blitz, blast some Beyoncé and partake in a girls’ day celebration. No matter your Feb. 14th plans, show some Galentine’s Day love to the ladies in your life who will be there for beach days, breakdowns, and everything in between!

Pick a weekend and lock your girls’ day in now. Need inspiration? We've got you covered.

Morning:

Brunch
Dress up, bless up, and eat up. Throw on your best brunch attire, order whatever your heart desires, and treat yo' self. Brunch is the OG way to celebrate Galentine's Day. Sip on breakfast cocktails while exchanging laughs and stories at your favourite spot, or try somewhere new.

Day:

Picnic
Everyone chip in and start planning right away to make it a picnic fit for a queen. Prep your baskets with sweet and savoury favourites and plenty of drinks to go around. Make it a daylong event with the right decor, music and entertainment; pack your faves, and if you need help, we've got you covered. Check your weather apps and stake out a spot. Try Wendy Whitley's Secret Garden in Lavender Bay, Mark's Park in Bondi, or just head to the beach!

Get Active
What's more “strong, independent” woman than challenging yourself to a hike, or getting fit in sister solidarity. It’s perfect time for that fitness class you always say you’re going to do but never actually get around to (can relate). Attend a fitness event like Yoga in the Garden, held Feb. 15th at The Grounds of Alexandria, or get active for a cause Feb. 17th, joining Cupids Run, a 1.5 km run beginning at Hyde park, ending with an after party at Opera Bar.

Afternoon:

Tea Time
If you want to make brunch last all day long, attend afternoon tea. In the spirit of treating yourself, dress in your Sunday best and put your pinkies up. Gather for a gorgeous spread at The Langham, with pastel-hued everything. It’s the ultimate girls’ day out. Eat finger sandwiches, and drink from an incredible selection of Galentine’s libations, from teas to bubbly. And pretend that you do this, like, all the time.

Laugh All Evening
Make memories and laugh the night away with your girls. It's a fact that, after a few drinks, everyone is amazing at karaoke. Hit those high notes with your biggest fans cheering you on. Escape to the circus with Archie Brothers adult amusement park: arcade games, a laser tag arena and more. Get lost in an immersive cocktail experience of 80's-themed gaming and puzzles with The Lock-In at The Wanderer.

Night:

Parks and Rec Trivia Night
Fans of Parks and Recreation know that Galentine's Day is the best day of the year, according to Leslie Knope. It’s a day full of friendship and breakfast food. And that's exactly what you can expect this Feb. 13th at Made by the Hill's first-ever Parks and Rec trivia night. Bring your girls, test your knowledge, eat waffles and make Leslie Knope proud.

Moonlight Cinema Sesh
Pack your best guilty pleasure snacks and head to your nearest outdoor or open air cinema, soak in the summer evening surrounded by film, food and friends. Take your pick of the girls’ night movie selection provided by Sydney's best: St. George OpenAir Cinema (Royal Botanic Gardens), American Express OpenAir Cinema (Bondi), Moonlight Cinema Sydney (Centennial Park); Mov'in Bed Cinema (Moore Park), Sunset Cinema (North Sydney Oval), and The Skyline Drive In (Blacktown).

Keep It Simple

Don't forget, it's your day too, so don't stress the details. Grab your girls. Grab a mimosa (grab two). Galentine's Day comes but once a year!

Cheers!
