OUR TOP 5 PICNIC SPOTS

If we've learnt anything from recent COVID-19 lockdowns it is the power of a picnic to brighten the mood! Whether you're cuddling up with a date as the sun sets, spending a family day by the water or getting a gang of friends back together with some drinks in the shade, never underestimate the simple pleasure of the great outdoors and spending time with the ones you love. To help you plan your next picnic we've put together a list of the most picturesque picnic spots from all around Australia. Grab one of our bestselling picnic baskets or sets while you're here and you'll be ready to go. All that's left to do now is stock up on your favourite picnic foods and decide who you're sharing them with!

Shark Island, Sydney

Surrounded by the sparkling blue water of Sydney Harbour, Shark Island is Sydney's best-kept secret for Instagram-worthy picnics. To begin the day trip you can enjoy a scenic ferry ride across the harbour to the island, which is only accessible by boat. Once you arrive you'll be able to spread your blanket right by the water's edge and breath in the sea breeze as you set up your perfect picnic feast. We recommend you bring SUNNYLiFE's Round Natural Cooler Basket with you to keep the drinks and snacks cool all day (including on the ferry trip over). The basket also features a removable cheeseboard which is perfect to accompany the romantic view of the city skyline from across the water. Cheers to picnic season!

 Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens, Daylesford

Set on top of an extinct volcano, Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens is one of the oldest scenic spots in Melbourne. With a panoramic view across Daylesford, romantic rotundas and historic houses nestled amongst the foliage, there's a variety of secret spots to choose from as the backdrop to your picnic. If you're after something particularly unforgettable we suggest planning your visit in the Autumn months when the gardens are transformed by colourful falling leaves.

South Bank, Brisbane

Skirting the edge of the Brisbane River is the beautiful South Bank Parklands. Perfect for a day trip with the family there is no shortage of activities to keep the kids busy, from playgrounds and art galleries to our personal favourite - Streets Beach. The only inner city beach in Australia, Streets Beach is an idyllic hidden oasis. Pack your swimmers, a SUNNYLiFE float or two and find yourself a shady spot beneath the palm trees. You'll be able to enjoy a picnic and a swim amongst the tropical surroundings all without leaving the inner city!

Gibraltar Falls, Gibraltar Creek Pine Forest

Less than an hours drive south from Canberra is the beautiful Gibraltar Falls. The stunning freshwater falls are surrounded by Australian flora and fauna within the Gibraltar Creek Pine Forest. To reach the falls from the closest parking location you can do a short 200m bushwalk and return to the scenic picnic area to enjoy a gourmet packed lunch. Our Small Natural Picnic Basket comes with everything you need for a sit-down lunch for two, including plates, cups and cutlery. If you are after something a little more adventurous you could also have your lunch on one of the rocks around the falls themselves and enjoy the stunning view. A SUNNYLiFE Travel Cheese Set can be conveniently popped in your backpack while you walk and brought out for lunch by the water if you choose to travel light.

Port Willunga Beach, Port Willunga

On a hot summer afternoon there is nothing as perfect as a late afternoon picnic on the beach, surrounded by friends and family. At Port Willunga Beach you can put up an umbrella and lay out your picnic blanket on the sand, surrounded by friendly locals who have come to enjoy the gorgeous sunset. Stay late into the afternoon, dipping in and out of the crystal clear water while enjoying drinks and snacks on the shore. You'll feel like you've been transported to paradise!
