2019 IS THE YEAR OF SELF-CARE

2019 is the year of self-care

We’re already two months into the new year and where has the time gone??

While time is going by in the blink of an eye, it's important to slow down, check in and make time for yourself. 2019 is the years of self care and it's V' important. This means caring for yourself, mentally, physically and environmentally, to make sure you feel at peace and ready to take on the world. It's the acceptance that you need time for yourself to process or prepare in your own unique way.

Whether it’s spending a night in, rather than going out, or choosing sleep over "one more" episode of Netflix, which we all know turns into five.

March brings the transition from one season to the next. So, why not give your mind a seasonal refresh as well! Here are ten, easy and effective tips to get you started.

Body - Treat Yourself Like a Queen!

- Pamper yourself. Unwind with some bubbles in the tub, and maybe some bubbles in a glass, try that new bath bomb, stream your fave rom-com, and just relaaaax. Try developing a weekly manicure/pedicure routine or actually use that amazing body lotion, you abandoned after the second use, because who has the time... well it's time to make time.

- Get active. Morning exercise improves productivity - it wakes up the brain and body more than any cup of coffee. If you don't have time to hit the gym in the am, just ten minutes of Yoga or HITT exercise at home is enough to get those juices flowing. So, grab your active gear and get moving.

- Get massages more regularly. Massages do wonders for your body, but they also energize the nervous system and give your brain love, too. Massage benefits muscle tension, but also mental acuity, restfulness, and can improve life perspective. If you're a classic desk employee, hunched over a computer for many hours, regular massage sessions can relieve stress and tension held all over the body and make work more enjoyable.

Mind - Treat Yo' Self Inside and Out!

- Light a candle. There's something so comforting and invigorating about a new candle or one that’s your favorite scent, right? A fantastic fragrance can do anything from improving your mood to helping you relax, which makes it the ultimate self-care tool. Adding one to your home or work space can instantly create an inviting and motivating atmosphere. So, replenish your go-to's or find a new fave.

- Take up journaling. Processing things on a daily basis can be overwhelming, even if it's positive. A great way to get your thoughts out of your brain and somewhere tangible is in a journal. It can be a helpful tool to release your frustrations and share your victories.

- Listen to music. Let the music wash over you, get lost in the beat and become mesmerized by the words. Don’t be afraid to sing, dance, or merely chill. The act of tuning out can pull your emotions front and center and provide insight into what you need.

Environment

- Make your bed. I know you’ve heard this one before, but making your bed every day is literal magic. When you are facing big tasks in your life, the little details are important. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do more and more.

- Let the light shine. Natural light is such a beautiful thing, isn’t it? We love all things sunny and the sun loves us right back. Natural light is a proven mood booster. So, as soon as you wake up in the morning, one of the first things you should do is open the blinds. Grab your sunnies and soak it in. It's a fantastic way to start your day.

- Get back to nature. On days where you just feel ehhhh, getting outside and breathing in the fresh air is a great ritual for clearing your head to refocus. Grab a blanket or towel, lay outside and soak in some mood-boosting sunlight. Evan if it's a short walk, getting outside is an easy way to boost your mood and increase energy.

- Spend time with furry friends. By far my favorite piece of advice! There's a reason people have emotional support animals, besides finding an excuse to keep their furry friend by their side at all times - Genius. Spending time with animals is scientifically proven to decrees stress. It’s amazing how much a little puppy playtime can improve your mood and turn that frown upside down!

Take the time

- Like anything good for us, if it's a little inconvenient, we can come up with a million excuses. The most common is a lack of time. But, as they say, you have the same number of hours in your day as Beyoncé. So, treat yourself like a queen!
